The Day It Rained Valentines

This week we started working on on Valentines themed narrative writing. I introduced the lesson by reading aloud The Day it Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond.

I provided my students with the prompt:

“We are going to write an imaginative story. Imagine that it rained hearts close to Valentine’s Day. What would you do with the hearts? Who would you give your hearts to?”

On a cold February morning, I walked outside and it started to rain hearts. At first, I was confused; however, I got a wonderful idea. I decided to…...

On Tuesday they conducted a prewrite using a writing web.
On Wednesday I provided the students with a 3 paragraph essay model.
The students then continued to produce a rough draft, edit their work with teacher assistance and finally finish with a published product.

They enjoyed this activity and I was very proud of their finished products.
